Mr. Trump is not the first US president to express his intention to buy Greenland.
News agency CNN quoted two sources as saying that US President Donald Trump has repeatedly raised the issue of buying Greenland from the Danish government and the White House attorney’s office is considering this possibility.
Mr. Trump’s interest in buying Greenland was first reported on August 15 in The Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper wrote that people present in the discussions said President Trump raised this issue in meetings and dinners.
The US leader also asked his White House adviser to study this issue.

Sources also told The Wall Street Journal that Trump’s aides have differing views on the issue.
CNN has reached out to the White House and the State Department for comment.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark.
Aides expressed both expectations and doubts about the President’s concerns and questions about the island’s military and research potential, The Wall Street Journal wrote.
They also pointed out that people outside the administration are talking about buying Greenland as a way for Mr. Trump to make a name for himself.
The Wall Street Journal says one person recounted a dinner last spring.

The person told the newspaper that Mr. Trump’s comments seemed more like a joke about his power than an expression of real intentions.
