The concept of cohesion has been mentioned in ASEAN’s foundational documents such as the ASEAN Charter and the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, including political cohesion, economic cohesion and cohesion between social institutions.
Regarding proactive adaptation, Vietnam wants to improve ASEAN’s capacity to proactively and effectively adapt to rapid changes in the world situation and emerging challenges such as competition.
Proactive adaptation is one of the connotations of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, which is included in the ASEAN theme for the first time to reflect the need to enhance initiative, creativity, transformation and the ability to rise.

Vietnam’s 5 priorities in the year of ASEAN Chairmanship
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, with the above topic, in the role of ASEAN Chair 2020, Vietnam will promote 5 priorities.
Firstly, promote ASEAN’s role and positive contribution to maintaining a peaceful, secure and stable environment in the region on the basis of strengthening ASEAN solidarity and unity and promoting the spirit of attachment.
Second, promote regional links and connections, improve the ability to adapt and take advantage of opportunities of the 4.0 industrial revolution, accordingly, deepen economic links and comprehensive connections within the bloc.
Third, promote the sense of community and ASEAN identity, create common ASEAN values and widely disseminate them to the people, promote awareness and identification of the ASEAN Community united in diversity, and enhance
Fourth, promote partnerships for peace and sustainable development with countries around the world, promote ASEAN’s role and contributions to the international community, expand and enhance relationships with partners.
