According to Reuters statistics, the United States on December 16 recorded a record high number of deaths from Covid-19 per day when up to 3,580 people died.

The US is still the world’s largest outbreak with more than 307,000 deaths and nearly 17 million people infected with Covid-19.

The above alarming numbers caused US authorities to accelerate the review and approval of a second Covid-19 vaccine.

A panel of FDA advisors met on December 17 to review the safety and effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.

US Secretary of Health Alex Azar on December 17 told CNBC that 5.9 million doses of the Moderna vaccine will be distributed to state governors and ready to be shipped across the country.

`We are ready to ship the vaccine from this weekend for them to distribute next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,` Secretary Azar added.

Moderna’s vaccine has less stringent cold storage requirements than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine began being distributed to states across the US late last week and is still on its way to hospitals.

Mr. Joe Biden’s close advisor has Covid-19

President-elect Joe Biden’s transition office announced on December 17 that Cedric Richmond, who was appointed by Mr. Biden as a White House advisor, had Covid-19.

Mr. Richmond will have to quarantine for 14 days, then be tested two more times before returning to work in person.

`He only met the President-elect outdoors, always wore a mask and interacted for no more than 15 minutes, and complied with the regulations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Mr. Richmond came to Georgia once.

A spokesman for President-elect Joe Biden said Mr. Biden tested negative for the coronavirus that causes the Covid-19 pandemic.
