Since his election in 2020, Joe Biden has been known as a `Climate President` for signing into law the Inflationary Reduction Act (IRA), the largest clean energy investment in history.

However, from the beginning of 2023 until now, President Biden’s administration has made decisions that have somewhat lost confidence in young voters, typically the approval of the Willow project, an oil drilling project with low emissions.

In addition, Israel’s recent move to support a strong retaliation campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 22,000 people to date, has caused a migration crisis and increased insecurity.

Those may be some of the important reasons why Mr. Biden is lagging behind his predecessor – former President Donald Trump – in polls among young voters, in contrast to the dominance he once had.

Recent election developments show that Mr. Trump is leading with policies that are considered to be somewhat more practical than Mr. Biden, including the campaign message `America First`.

Voice of young voters

During her college years, Elise Joshi was one of the young voters who came to Mr. Biden with a strong belief in responsibility for climate change.

But until now, Joshi, like many other young voters, gradually realized that the President they once trusted is acting contrary to his promises.

`The vast majority of America’s youth are appalled by the bloodshed that is being carried out with our tax dollars and government support. The administration’s stance is contrary to the youth and

Not only Joshi’s environmental advocacy group, other youth organizations around the world have also criticized Israel’s campaign in the Gaza Strip, and expressed solidarity with the Palestinians.

Ms. Greta Thunberg, famous since the age of 15 as a Swedish environmental activist, posted a photo of herself holding a `Standing for Gaza` sign before the 28th Conference of the Parties to the World Trade Organization.

Michele Weindling, Political Director of Sunrise Movement, said: `We are truly concerned about what is happening in Gaza. We believe that no person deserves to live without access to resources

However, this does not mean that Weindling and Joshi want young people to refuse to vote in the primary election.

According to Joshi, supporting Mr. Trump can be seen as another alternative solution.

Young activists say Mr. Biden still has time to adjust course if he wants to retain young people until November this year when the United States elects a president, as long as he acts early and decisively.

`The first step to win the election is to call for an immediate ceasefire. The group of voters for the environment and the group of voters who care about the Palestinians are one, they have the same vision,` Joshi affirmed.
